Participants can earn up to a certain number of
points on each assignment based on the quality of their work and the
criteria established in the assessment rubric and as discussed in the
sessions. It is imperative that all assignments are completed.

Project #1: Weekly Journal of Technology use
Keep a journal of daily technology use. Email to Mrs. Williams once a week.

Project #2: Slide Show Presentation
Create a PowerPoint presentation for a parent meeting or for a classroom topic. The purpose of this assignment is two-fold: (1) to increase one's knowledge base in the use of technology, and (2) to apply the use of technology to practical real-life situations. To complete this assignment it will be necessary to :
Access a PowerPoint computer programme
Produce a minimum of 6 slides
Develop the slides for a presentation to your class on topic in curriculum
Create the slides for a presentation students
Write a narrative explaining what you will say by way of introduction, what you will say to accompany each of the six slides and what you will say in conclusion
Scoring Rubric for Slide Show Presentation
Organization (30 pts) - There is a logical sequence of information. Title and closing slides are included. There are a minimum of 6 slides. Narrative is included.
Content (30 pts) - Presentation covers topic completely and in depth. Information is clear, appropriate and accurate
Multimedia Design (70 pts) - Use of multimedia (text, graphics, sound, video, animation) is creative and effective. Text is used appropriately.
Language (30 pts) - Spelling, grammar usage and punctuation are accurate (This is sooooo important for teachers)
Appearance (70 pts) - Presentation is attractive and appealing to viewers
Presentation (70 pts) - Ideas are communicated with enthusiasm, proper voice projection and clear delivery. There is sufficient eye contact with audience
Project #3: Newsletter
Create an appealing, newsworthy and interesting newsletter for your class or department using common desktop publishing authoring software such as Publisher or Microsoft Word. Be sure to include the following:
A masthead with your newsletter title in Word Art, the date, your name and volume number
A drop cap
Two columns with justified text
Three articles with headlines (i.e.. information for students and parents, description of how you will use technology, topic of your choice)
Graphics or clipart clearly related to articles they accompany
Articles and graphics should fill one page
Scoring Rubric for Newsletter
Layout/Masthead (40 pts) - The name of the newsletter is centered and is in WordArt. The date, you name and volume number appear below the name in a smaller font.
Articles - Interest (40 pts) The articles contain facts, figures and /or word choices that make the articles exceptionally interesting to readers
Requirements (40 pts) All of the required content was present
Graphics (40 pts) Graphics are well-cropped, text wrapped and are clearly related to the articles they accompany.
Spelling and Proofreading (40 pts) - No spelling or grammar errors
Project #4: Spreadsheet
Create a spreadsheet during workshop session for an appropriate identifiable educational purpose (i.e. Grade sheet) using Microsoft Excel.
Project #5: Class Project
Develop a Project for a specific subject using a template and examples provided during workshop
Components of Project:
A clear concise introduction that provides necessary information and sets up the activity.
An interesting and concrete central task. (The task is the end result of student efforts . . . not the steps involved in getting there.)
A collection of information resources needed, listed for students (You should evaluate all resources linked to the project. Note that books, video and other off-line resources can and should be used where appropriate).
A step-by-step description of the process students will use to accomplish the task.
Guidelines on how to organize the information acquired (questions that should be answered etc.).
Criteria for evaluating project is clearly stated.
A visually appealing and flowing page.
Scoring rubric for Project
Introduction (8 pts.) - The introduction draws the reader into the lesson by relating to the learner's interests or goals and/or engagingly describing a compelling question or problem. It effectively prepares the learner by foreshadowing what the lesson is about.
Task (20 pts) - The task is clearly connected to what students must know and be able to do to achieve curriculum objectives. The task is doable and engaging, and elicits thinking that goes beyond rote comprehension. The task requires going beyond the data given and making a generalization or creative product.
Process (24 pts) - Every step is clearly stated. Most students would know exactly where they are at each step of the process and know what to do next. Activities are clearly related and designed to take the students from basic knowledge to higher level thinking.
Resources (16 pts) - There is a clear and meaningful connection between all the resources and the information needed for students to accomplish the task. Varied resources provide enough meaningful information for students to think deeply
Evaluation (12 pts)- Criteria for success are clearly stated including qualitative as well as quantitative descriptors. Evaluation instrument clearly measures what students must know and be able to do to accomplish the task.
Overall Aesthetics (20 pts)- Appropriate and thematic graphic elements are used to make visual connections that contribute to the understanding of concepts, ideas and relationships. Navigation through page is seamless and it is always clear to the learner what all the pieces are and how to get to them.
Project #6: Web Page
Set up a web page for your students so that they may locate resources in the subjects that you
teach. You must have listings of URLs that are linked as Web locators.
Your page should include:
A logo that relates to the purpose of your
Web page a statement of purpose of your Web page, and graphics and text that
identify you and/or your class as authors. You must also include a digital
picture of yourself or you with your class.
Multimedia, such as audio, video, digital
photography, etc., you would care to add (optional)
A total of 6 URLs that you consider to be outstanding resources for the specified
grade level/subjects. A title for each URL should be given followed by the URL and description or
resources available.

Scoring Rubric for Webpage
Layout/Design (30 pts) - Very pleasing to look at. Clever ideas that encourage reader to investigate further. Page(s) are well organized and text spacing and alignment make reading easy. The backgrounds enhance the page.
Graphics (50 pts) - Photos, icons ad clip art are used creatively and may follow theme
Navigation (40 pts) - Easy to navigate. Links are consistent and easy to find so that the used can easily navigate back and forth through page(s).
Content (60 pts) - Information is creatively written and cleverly presented. The purpose of the pages is clear. The text is clear and to the point. The links (at least 6) are logical and purposeful. All links connect. Project is included in content.
Writing Mechanics (20 pts) - The text has no errors in grammar, capitalization, punctuation and spelling.
