About the Author
Cathy Rattray Samuel is an energetic and creative educator and author of "Lets Have Fun With Spanish". The series of Spanish Workbooks are used in primary level schools throughout Jamaica. The workbooks and accompanying audio CD bring together Cathy’s extensive experience and many hats. First as a Spanish teacher and Principal at the primary level and then as a consultant with the Ministry of Education and CARICOM in developing their Primary Spanish Curriculums. Cathy has also conducted workshops throughout Jamaica and the Eastern Caribbean on the delivery and instruction of primary level Spanish.
Cathy’s passion is for teaching and learning and she has used her computer competency and familiarity with emerging technologies and their instructional applications to deliver workshops on Integrating Technology into the Classroom to primary level teachers. As an administrator Cathy has served as a Principal at Sts. Peter & Paul Preparatory School and St. Hugh's Preparatory School as well as Executive Director for Jamaica Independent Schools’ Association and the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission.
Cathy earned her Masters of Science degree in Teaching and Learning from Nova Southeastern University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Business Administration from the University of Tennessee. While at University of Tennessee Cathy was on an athletic scholarship and won 17 All-American honors while competing in college. Cathy mainly competed in the women's 400 metres during her career and Jamaica at the Olympic Games four times. Her athletic honors include World Indoor champion (4 x 400m), 3x in Top 8 at Olympic Games, 1x in Top 8 at World Championships, Bronze and silver medals at Pan American Games and Commonwealth Games.
